Veteran Success Story
After to connecting with a Career Coach, who provided some guidance on Resumes, LinkedIn profiles, etc. and somewhat apprehensive at the prospect of entering an unfamiliar domain, I circulated my resume and started applying for jobs … whilst job offers didn’t start rolling in, I did gain some invaluable experience of the recruitment process, something completely unfamiliar to most veterans.
Having discovered Working Spirt through LinkedIn I attended a Veterans Career Transition Forum, which provided even more specific advice on how Veterans can better ‘Market’ themselves and after some enlightening guest speaker presentations, I engaged in what is the most important job seeking activity … networking!
A few conversations with employers and recruiters generated some very real interest and engagement with prospective employers started … 2 months later, during a Working Spirit networking breakfast, I found myself catching up with an organisation I’d connected with at the Transition Forum and ended up discussing an opportunity for a very exciting role as the National Aviation Services Manager for an international ‘Quality of Life Services’ provider supporting the Mining and Resources sector.
Interview, medical and reference check formalities completed, I started my new role in early June, just 3 months after reaching out to Working Spirit … without the support of Working Spirit it is extremely unlikely that I would have been fortunate enough to have secured the position I now thoroughly enjoy!
